1. What this policy covers
This policy explains how FM Xtra handles information when you listen to radio, save preferences, use optional community features, or contact Bold Technology and AI.
FM Xtra supports online radio streams and offline reception through compatible phones' built-in FM receivers. As of the effective date, Bold Technology and AI does not operate a public FM Xtra community server, or a private/test server holding other people's data. The current release has no default community server connection. Comments, polls, shared profiles and live audience rankings require a separately configured community server.
The community section below describes what the included client and server software do if you connect a server. An independently operated server is responsible for its own hosting, access, retention and privacy practices. This policy does not describe data collected merely by visiting the BoldTech AI website.
2. Offline FM listening
Receiving an FM broadcast through your phone's built-in tuner does not require an internet connection or send the broadcast audio to Bold Technology and AI. FM Xtra uses supported phone FM services and audio controls to operate the tuner and route sound. Compatibility checks look for a limited set of known FM apps and services, rather than collecting a general inventory of your installed apps.
Offline audio and community connectivity are separate. If you have configured a community server and have internet access, community requests and listening-status updates can still occur while you listen through the offline tuner. Remove the community server connection if you do not want these requests. A manufacturer's FM app or service may also have its own privacy practices.
3. Information stored on your phone
FM Xtra stores information locally to remember your choices and support its features. Depending on the features you use, this includes:
- Radio settings, selected station or frequency, audio preferences, saved stations and station follows.
- Program reminders, station names and scheduled times; downloaded station-directory and program-schedule data.
- Your community display name, server address and access token, if configured.
- Unsent comment drafts and the conversation or reply they belong to.
- Local diagnostic information, including app-start and crash counts, tuning and playback counters, session-duration summaries, recent errors and crash details, and device information such as manufacturer, model and Android version.
Compatibility reports can additionally contain your Android build identifier and details about detected FM services. Playback troubleshooting logs can include station identifiers and timing information. The app does not automatically upload these diagnostic reports or logs to Bold Technology and AI or a remote analytics service. If you copy a report or send it to support, the information you share leaves the app through that action.
Local records generally remain until replaced, removed through the relevant feature, or cleared with the app's storage. Android's Clear storage/data option removes FM Xtra's local data, including its saved community access token. Uninstalling normally removes the app's private local data. These actions do not delete information already stored by a community server, streaming provider, email provider or another app.
4. Online streams and streaming providers
When you start an online stream, your phone connects to the station's streaming host. The host receives the network information needed to deliver the stream, including your IP address, requested stream, client request headers and connection timing. FM Xtra sends an app-identifying user-agent header. It does not attach your FM Xtra community access token to these streaming requests.
The bundled station directory currently uses these hosts:
| Host | Stations in the bundled directory | Provider information |
|---|---|---|
mmg.streamguys1.com |
Joy FM, Adom FM, Asempa FM, Hitz FM, Luv FM and Nhyira FM | StreamGuys privacy policy |
yfm1079accra-atunwadigital.streamguys1.com |
YFM Accra | StreamGuys privacy policy |
citi973fm.radioca.st |
Citi FM | Streamerr privacy policy; Streamerr documentation identifying its radioca.st service |
A connected community server can supply an updated station directory, so the hosts contacted can change with the selected station and directory. Station operators and streaming providers control their own server logs, retention and use of connection information. Their published website policies may not explain every aspect of a particular station's streaming arrangement; contact the station or provider for those details. Their infrastructure may process information outside Ghana.
FM Xtra contains no advertising SDK or remote analytics/crash-reporting SDK. Bold Technology and AI does not sell FM Xtra user data or have additional advertising, analytics or data-sale arrangements for the app. Radio broadcasts and streams can nevertheless contain advertisements supplied by the broadcaster.
5. Optional community connections
With no community server configured, FM Xtra does not send comments, profiles or listening-status updates to a community backend. If you connect one, the included software handles the following information:
- Profile and authentication: a display name, randomly generated profile identifier and secret access token. The server stores a hash of the token. No email address, password, phone number or social-media login is required. Connecting or using authenticated features, including listening-status reporting, can create a profile; posting a comment is not the only trigger.
- Community activity: comments, replies, related station/program identifiers and timestamps, likes, station follows, listener follows, polls, options and votes. These support conversations, profiles and personalized feeds.
- Moderation and corrections: reports, report reasons and station-update suggestions, linked to the submitting profile, for server administrators to review.
- Listening status: the current station identifier and playback status, linked to your profile, with a server timestamp. During confirmed playback, the app attempts an update about every 25 seconds. This can apply to online playback and supported offline FM playback. The server uses these updates for aggregate audience rankings, not a measurement of every listener to a station.
- Connection and abuse-prevention information: the server receives network requests and can generate access logs. The included backend stores request-rate counters, including a hashed client IP address for profile-creation limits. Hashing does not make that information necessarily anonymous.
Display names, profile identifiers, published comments, replies, polls and aggregate reaction/follow counts are visible through community features. Treat what you publish as public to other community users. Individual vote records, follow relationships, reports and listening-status records are available to the server operator; they are not all exposed as public lists. Community content is not end-to-end encrypted.
Community retention and deletion
The included backend keeps one current listening-status record per profile. A matching stop update removes it; stale records expire from audience counts after 75 seconds and are removed when a later directory or live-ranking request runs. Old request-rate counters are cleaned up during later rate-limit checks once their window is more than 24 hours old. These are request-triggered cleanups, not guaranteed background deletion deadlines.
There is no automatic retention limit in the supplied backend for profiles, comments, polls, votes, follows, reports or suggestions. A poll closing does not delete its stored records. Removing a like or follow deletes that relationship. Deleting your own comment clears its text and hides it, but retains its database record and related identifiers or relationships.
The current app and backend do not provide complete account deletion. Disconnecting a server, changing servers, clearing app storage or uninstalling does not erase the old server's data. Contact that server's operator for deletion, retention, log and backup information before connecting. Bold Technology and AI cannot directly erase records held by an independent operator. Keep access to your profile while arranging a request; clearing local storage removes the token used to access it.
6. Android permissions and integrations
FM Xtra uses internet and network-status permissions for streaming and configured community connections; audio-setting access for playback controls; foreground media-playback services and wake locks to support listening; notifications for playback controls and program reminders; and boot-completed access to restore saved reminders after a restart.
The current app does not request microphone, camera, location, contacts, SMS, call-log, Bluetooth or broad file-storage permissions. It does not record your microphone. You can manage notification permission in Android settings.
Choosing to add a program to your calendar opens your calendar app with the event details for you to review and save. FM Xtra does not read your calendar. Playback and reminder notifications may display station or program information on the lock screen, depending on your Android notification settings.
Station websites and Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube links open in your browser or the relevant external app. FM Xtra does not embed their feeds or use their login SDKs. Those services receive information when you visit them and apply their own privacy policies.
7. Support emails
When you email support@boldtechai.com, we receive your email address, any name included with it, message contents, attachments and email delivery information. We use this information to respond to your request, investigate reported problems and handle privacy requests. Sending a diagnostic report is optional; review it before sharing and avoid including unrelated personal information.
Our support email is hosted through Hostinger, our website hosting provider. Hostinger and the infrastructure providers involved in email delivery process messages to provide that service. Information may be processed outside Ghana. See Hostinger's privacy policy for its practices.
We delete support messages and attachments within 12 months after resolving the request. You can request earlier deletion by emailing the same address. We accept these requests except where retention is legally required. This commitment covers support records under our control; it does not set the retention period for the email provider's own service logs or independently managed backups.
8. Security and your choices
Release community connections require HTTPS, and the bundled streams use HTTPS. Local information is stored in the app's Android storage. The app disables standard Android app backup and explicitly excludes community preferences from its backup and device-transfer rules; manufacturer behavior can vary. These controls do not guarantee that information can never be accessed or lost.
You can listen without connecting a community server, remove a configured server connection, edit your display name, remove your own comments, undo likes or follows, cancel reminders and clear local app storage. Some actions require access to the connected server. Not supplying community information prevents the corresponding community feature from working but does not itself prevent supported radio listening.
For information held by Bold Technology and AI, contact support@boldtechai.com to request access, correction or deletion, or to raise a privacy concern. Applicable rights and exceptions depend on the relevant law and the information involved. Do not send your secret community access token in an email. You can also raise a complaint with Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
9. Age requirements
FM Xtra is intended for people aged 13 and older and is not intended for children under 13. The current app does not collect a date of birth or verify a user's age. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Bold Technology and AI, contact support@boldtechai.com. For information submitted to an independently operated community server, contact that operator as well.
10. Changes to this policy
Changes to the app or its data practices may require an updated policy. The effective date identifies this version. The policy address is https://boldtechai.com/fmxtra/privacy.
